The Bright Forever: Finding Eternal Light Through Hymns, Brokenness, and Fanny Crosby

“Every experience God gives us, every person He puts in our lives is the perfect preparation for the future that only He can see.” — Corrie Ten Boom
Welcome to The Bright Forever Podcast! I’m Andy Peavyhouse, and this very first episode is the beginning of a journey I’ve wanted to take for a long time—a journey into hymns, theology, and the deeply personal stories that connect us to both.
This podcast was born not just out of a love for music and faith, but from a desire to pass on a legacy to my daughters. I want them to know what hymns have meant to me—their beauty, their truth, their power—and how they’ve shaped my life.
🎙 Music That Speaks When You Can’t
As a child with a speech impediment, I found freedom in music. While words often failed me in conversation, they came alive when I sang. Hymns became my voice—my theology, my refuge, and my worship.
From MC Hammer (yes, really) to Bill & Gloria Gaither, my musical world was eclectic—but it was the timeless truths in hymns that stuck. As I grew in faith and later stepped into ministry, these songs carried the weight of my convictions and comforted me in weakness.
✨ Why “The Bright Forever”?
This podcast takes its name from a lesser-known hymn by one of history’s most prolific hymn writers: Fanny Crosby. Blind from six weeks old, Crosby wrote over 8,000 hymns—many now beloved by generations of believers.
Her hymn, “The Bright Forever,” captivated me—not only because of its beauty, but because it was written by someone who couldn’t physically see, yet had a clearer spiritual vision than most. She wrote about heaven, light, glory, and the face of her Savior with unshakable hope.
And for me, with my own lifelong stutter, there’s a parallel: she longed to see; I long to speak clearly. She yearned for the day when her eyes would behold Jesus. I yearn for the day when my voice, unhindered, can shout His name in joy.
“When I get to heaven, the first face that shall ever gladden my sight will be that of my Savior.” — Fanny Crosby
🌾 A Podcast for the Weary and the Worshipful
This show is more than hymnology. It’s a call to remember. To sing again. To teach our children. To connect faith and beauty in ways that restore our souls.
Each week, I’ll introduce a hymn—its background, its biblical grounding, and what it has meant to me. I’ll also share personal reflections on life, disability, and how God uses the broken parts of our story for His glory.
🕊 In the Bright Forever, We Are Made Whole
Fanny Crosby’s hymn ends with a vision of the redeemed gathered on the banks beyond the river, where we will weep no more. It’s the great hope of the believer: that one day we will see clearly, speak freely, sing fully—and be in the presence of the Savior forever.
So as we begin this journey, I ask you to consider:
-
What hymn has shaped your faith?
-
What trials has God used to teach you grace?
-
What “disability” might be a mercy in disguise?
Thank you for listening. Thank you for starting this journey with me. And welcome to The Bright Forever.
